Consular officers assess your application under Section 214(b) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA), which focuses on two questions:

• Do you possess strong economic, social, and family ties to your home country that will compel you to return?

How to Answer Interview Questions About Flights

When asked: 'When do you plan to travel?' or 'Have you booked flights?', the ideal answer is: 'I have a tentative travel itinerary planned for [Month], flying into [City], but I have not purchased non-refundable tickets in accordance with State Department recommendations.' Having a tentative flight reservation in your folder confirms you have researched realistic logistics without violating consular guidelines.
