The 'No Gap' Accommodation Rule
The most critical rule enforced across all 29 Schengen member states is the zero-gap requirement. From the moment you land at a Schengen airport until the moment your departure flight departs, every single night must be accounted for:
- If you arrive in Frankfurt on October 1st at 18:00 and depart from Munich on October 10th at 11:00, you must provide lodging proof covering 9 consecutive nights.
- If traveling overnight on a sleeper train or overnight ferry (e.g., between Vienna and Venice), a confirmed sleeper train ticket covers that specific night and must be included in your file.
Multi-Country Itineraries
If visiting France, Switzerland, and Italy on one trip, hotel reservations for each destination must be sequenced logically, matching inter-city transit times. Consular caseworkers map your route to ensure your travel schedule is realistic.
