Canada Visitor Visa: Flight and Lodging Guidelines

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) assesses Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) applications online. Providing a coherent travel plan is a key factor in proving that you will leave Canada at the end of your authorized stay.

Does IRCC Require Paid Flight Tickets?

No. IRCC official guidance explicitly states that applicants do not need to buy flight tickets to apply for a visitor visa. Instead, submitting a flight itinerary or tentative flight reservation showing flight dates, airlines, and route is the recommended practice.

Components of an Airtight Canadian Visa Travel Plan

• Flight Reservation: Round-trip itinerary demonstrating entry into Canada (e.g., Toronto Pearson - YYZ or Vancouver - YVR) and return to your home country.
• Proof of Accommodation: Confirmed hotel bookings across cities on your itinerary or an invitation letter from a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
• Purpose of Travel Letter: A narrative detailing your planned activities (sightseeing, visiting Niagara Falls, business conferences, etc.).

Why Flight Proof Strengthens 'Ties to Home Country'

Having a clear return flight date that aligns with your employment leave approval letter or university break demonstrates that your visit has a well-defined end date, satisfying Section 179(b) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations (IRPR).
